Which UX role is right for me?

UX research, product design, content design, UX writing, design ops, and service design are all distinct paths. Read 20 job postings for each role before committing. The one that fits your background will be easier to land and grow in.

How long does it take to transition into UX?

A focused 90-day plan works for most career changers: 30 days to orient and pick a role, 30 days to build two case studies and rewrite your resume, and 30 days to apply and practice interviewing.

What is the 90-day UX career transition plan?

Days 1–30: orient and decide on a target role. Days 31–60: build two projects and ship them as case studies. Days 61–90: apply to 20–40 targeted roles and practice interviewing out loud.

What skills do I need to build for a UX career?

The skills depend on the role. UX research needs interviewing and synthesis. Product design needs prototyping and systems thinking. Content design needs writing and information architecture. Pick a role, then build skills toward it rather than learning everything.
